Purpose of mineralization:
Metro station walls are especially vulnerable to graffiti and urine, making surface protection essential. To address this, mineralization was applied, preventing paints and liquids from penetrating the concrete.
Additionally, dirt accumulation is minimized, keeping the concrete clean and preserving its aesthetic appeal over time. Mineralization also prevents dust emissions, further contributing to the station’s long-term durability.
Architect David Trottin explains:
“Our goal is to foster connections and establish the foundations of urbanity in a space that lies at the intersection of multiple municipalities. We seek to emphasize depth, infuse it with an earthy quality, and explore materials that evoke crystalline veins.”
Given the high risk of vandalism, mineralization was recommended as a protective solution. By creating a barrier against graffiti, liquids, and dirt, the process ensures that the station remains visually appealing while significantly reducing maintenance needs.
